Hi Claire i hope you have found our website informative and help full.

In answer to the question Headington and Oxford signals are very good, The main Oxford Transmitter is based in Beckley just outside Headington. The Transmitter is the Main Signal mast for the Whole of Oxfordshire it also serves most of Buckinghamshire with its TV reception.

There are a number of problem area's in Headington itself, like down towards the town centre because of the hill leading up the London Road leading into Headington, or towards the bottom end of Marston the aerial signals require and extra signal boost.

They often need larger aerial masts, a larger aerial, a masthead amplifier or sometimes all 3.

This is because of the TV signals trying to get over Headington hill and the John Radcliff hospital.

Most of lower marston is not affected by the poor signal and needs one of the smaller aerial installations

In answer to the other part of the question, if the TV upstairs in the bedroom is not the greatest of pictures maybe the TV signals coming into the whole of the house need looking at.

We will be happy to arrange a local aerial and satellite engineer to visit you, Please call 0800 1244192.

Without checking out the actual house the signal problems could be a number of things

  • The coaxial cables in the walls may be worn or water logged
  • The TV aerial itself maybe to small
  • The aerial may have been knocked in the roof
  • The aerial will receive a better signal externally.

What i would suggest you do next is have one of our local Oxford based TV aerial engineer's come to your house and do a full signal check with his digital aerial meter. We can then suggest a repair for you which might be as simple as installing a tv amplifier or moving the existing aerial to the chimney.

Or if there is any re cabling needed we could advise on a solution to the signal problems you may have.

It also sounds like the TV upstairs may not be ready for the digital switchover you may loose the channels on that TV all together no matter how good the signal is after September.

Digital switch over in Oxford is due to be completed by the end of September 2011

Once you have had the television signals checked, i would suggest either upgrading the TV to a new one with Digital freeview channels built in or simply buying a freeview box, or a freeview receiver and attaching it to your old TV.

I hope We managed to help you with this enquiry

All the best for the future

I live in headington Oxford and I have just been given a new LCD tv with built in freeview but the tv is only finding half of the digital channels, is there anything you can suggest I can try, I have tried replacing the cable between the wall and the tv itself and also I have tried another tv in the house the tv in my bedroom works fine on channel 1 through 5 it's not the best picture but it is watchable.

I have been looking through your site and see that because the aerial is in the loft it may have a poor signal would it help if I got someone to move it to my chimney outside? Can u give me any advice or able to fix this for me?

Jill Is having problems with a Slough aerial installer.

123 aerials response

I am sorry to hear that you have had Problems with www.sloughaerials.co.uk.

Slough aerial as far as i can see, are one of those companies i have written about in a previous thread. They are boasting that they are local aerial installer in Slough or local satellite engineers Slough but this is not true.

I think that you are right you have had a visit by the company who where on rogue traders the other night, operating as a slough aerial installer.

A sky satellite dish service call should cost on average £50 - £80 depending on who you choose. If they where to have to replace the Sky dish and, or the LNB that is on the end of the dish. This will be charged as extra parts and should have cost you between £25 - £45.

At the worst of prices i would have said £125 depending on which company you call out.

I would suggest that if they where menacing or demanding money from you, you may have a criminal court case and you should pop down to the slough police station, Next to the McDonalds on Windsor Road, Please take the receipt.

Please my i suggest you keep our details for the future, as we have a Sky TV and satellite aerial engineer that lives in langley and works around the Slough area, and we will be happy to pass on his details to you. 0800 1244192

I hope we have managed to help you today

all the best for the digital switchover

P.S The Barnes family have four generations of aerial installers John Barnes was behind Aerial systems, aerial force, the TV aerial company, and possibly the new company that will probably exist next Friday after rogue traders is aired.

Most families have a black sheep unfortunately we have a big one.

PPS Mark Smith is the son of John Barnes, his real name is Mark Barnes, he is not an aerial installer but an estate agent, Mark worked for his dad for a while and no longer works in the aerial industry.

Rogue traders have a page on their website for reporting rogues or surrey trading standards will add your complaint to the pile.

i recently had my son hit my sky satellite dish with his balll it caused slight interference on some channels ,my husband being sport crazy insisted we call some one who would come out straight away .I looked on the net and found slough aerials.co.uk.They were there the next day but insisted my dish was no use was warped and would never line up agaian and insisted it had to be replaced at a cost of £240, when i looked shocked he immediately said ok dear 220 but dont tell anyone i still refused then he said ok 180and we use youre old lnb . i have since found these dishes with no lnb are more like£45 plus fitting £100 maybe to be fair but these guys seemed to just want to get as much as possible from me

Are these the people who were on rogue traders as the invoice said the dakota group of nw11 in london and the guy who said he was local needed directions to langley from slough surely any local knows were langley is. i have never felt so bullied in my own home by a tradesman in this way its ridiculous whey to operate and when i called the {local}no. agaian a diffrent w0men answered and was not sure where i lived she thought i came fram surrey an would only say they were called tv aerials very top secret for a local aerial man and now they say he doesnt work there now and will not admit even doing the job although they took my credit card detials and i have there invioce

Can you shed any light on these strange way they operate

BEWARE

Please be aware that we have noticed, that there are a few national companies, which are moving into the area posing as local companies. They pretend to be at an address near you or a town close.

But in fact are based sometimes not even in the same country.

They will quote a very low foot in the door price.

BUT a representative will turn up and will have been told to dramatically increase the price on completion of the job, in order to gain more jobs in the future.

If you are unsure and want us to find you a real, reliable engineer in the area where you live please let us know and we will be glad to help. Even if you are in an area we do not cover we can spot the signs and ask the right questions for you.

THESE PEOPLE DO NOT HONOUR THEIR WARRANTIES THE ENGINEERS DO NOT WORK FOR THEM

At present we are starting to move up the country trying to keep a data base of reliable honest engineers so if you find one please keep us informed so we can help others.

Our new blog page.
